Descended from Thomas Byard of Strensham, Worcestershire, Circa 1563 and through the Byards of Gloucestershire ( see Worcester and Gloucestershire Byards in Genealogy section of 'Other Interests') also My Family.
During the Second World War my late Father was employed by British Power Boat Company at their Poole, Dorset, yard where he was the Senior Storekeeper, the company building Motor Torpedo Boats and Motor Gun Boats for the Royal Navy’s Coastal Forces. After the war we moved to Lymington, next to the New Forest in Hampshire, may parents having bought an ex-MTB to convert into a houseboat.
I was educated in England and Australia, and after my return to England in 1973 I later studied with The Open University, obtaining an Honours Degree in History, and in 2004 studied with Exeter University where I was awarded the Degree of Master of Arts in Maritime History with Merit in 2006.
We migrated to Australia in 1953, settling initially in Warner’s Bay, New South Wales, thence to ‘Beulah’ a Corriedale Stud Sheep Station near ‘Trangie’, a small country town in Central West New South Wales. After a period of 14 months, moved to Melbourne, Capital City of Victoria. Stayed in Australia, except for a short period back in England for a working hoiliday in 1965, until returning permanently in early 1973.
I was employed mainly in Passenger Shipping companies, in Australia and England, then for myself for a while, and latterly in Local Government in London.
